Pink River Dolphin Snorkeling Adventure
Snorkel with Pink River Dolphins and explore the Amazon
Join us on the Rio Negro in Amazonia for an unparalleled experience: the chance to come face-to-face with Pink River Dolphins underwater. Although the visibility is limited by the tannin-rich waters, these gregarious river dwellers are so uniquely friendly and playful that photographing them underwater is relatively easy and profoundly rewarding. Locally known as Botos, they live year-round in the Rio Negro, navigating by echo-location.
Watching them through the flooded Amazonian Rainforest is a very moving experience.
Beyond the Pink River Dolphin encounters, your Amazon adventure will continue with boat trips into the Rio Negro’s many tributaries. We’ll track the Tucuxi (grey river dolphins), known for their playful leaps near the boat and observe a wealth of Amazonian primates like capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and howler monkeys, as well as slow-moving three-toed sloths and stunning exotic birds such as tucans and maccaws. As night falls, your adventure continues with evening excursions to seek out nocturnal predators, including black and spectacled caimans and various amphibians and reptiles.

PINK DOLPHIN TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrive in the Amazon! Upon arrival at Manaus International Airport, we will meet you at 3:30pm for the short transfer to the Rio Negro. From there, we embark on a scenic two-hour boat journey upriver to our comfortable jungle lodge. Be ready with your camera immediately—the transfer offers an excellent chance to spot Tucuxi (grey) and Pink River Dolphins, along with colorful birds, diverse river life, and breathtaking Amazonian scenery.
Once you settle comfortably into your room, you are invited to join us for a delicious buffet dinner in the eco-lodge restaurant, overlooking the Rio Negro and the flooded Amazonian rainforest.
Day Two
After an early breakfast, the adventure begins! We will travel along a small tributary of the Rio Negro directly to a stretch of flooded forest where you will have your highly anticipated first chance to snorkel with the habituated Pink River Dolphins.
Following a wonderful morning session with the playful dolphins, we will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the early afternoon, we will return to the dolphins for another immersive encounter.
Later in the afternoon, we will climb back aboard our private river boat to explore the waterways, focusing our attention on the surrounding canopy in search of terrestrial mammals and bird life. We typically encounter a wide variety of primates, including squirrel monkeys, capuchins, and howler monkeys. Keep your eyes peeled for slow-moving, yet relatively common, Brown-throated three-toed sloths as well!
Once the sun dips below the horizon, we begin our exciting nighttime excursion. This is the best time to find and observe nocturnal creatures like owls, the impressive black and spectacled caimans, and various other reptiles and amphibians, concluding the day’s adventure before dinner back at the lodge.
Day 3
Wake up to breakfast with a river view, then we set off on the Rio Negro for another exciting Pink River Dolphin snorkeling session. The interactions are conducted at various locations, including specialized platforms and natural river beaches. Our flexibility allows us to prioritize whichever spot currently offers the largest and most active pod of dolphins.
We dedicate the early afternoon to more snorkeling with the Pink River Dolphins in their hunting grounds. Afterward, we will continue exploring the forest and its wildlife until twilight.
Day 4
This morning, we will venture out just before dawn to experience a truly magical moment as the sun slowly rises over the Rio Negro while the jungle slowly stirs and comes to life.
Following a final breakfast overlooking the river, we embark on one last, memorable session to snorkel with the Pink River Dolphins. We then return to the lodge to shower and enjoy lunch before beginning our scenic journey downriver, back toward Manaus. That evening, you are free to join your trip leader for dinner at the hotel or perhaps head into historic Manaus for dinner next to the famous Teatro Amazonas.
Day 5
Breakfast and farewells before we transfer you to Manaus Airport for your onward journey.

ANOTHER GREAT ADVENTURE WITH BIG FISH EXPEDITIONS
Just returned from my second trip with BFE and it went off perfectly. The true adventure of these trips always present challenging logistics but they pulled it off flawlessly. I would highly recommend BFE to anyone looking to get “off the grid” and experience a wildlife trip of a lifetime. I am looking forward to my next adventure with them. Thanks again!!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TIME WITH BIG FISH EXPEDITIONS
Andy is one of the best in the business. I would highly, highly recommend anyone interested in an animal focused trip to go with big fish expeditions.
The quality of experience and knowledge of the trip leader really sets them apart. Expect to get your fill of animals no matter what the trip is. Andy is also great at finding other animals to incorporate within the trips.
If you’re looking for a shark trip or big animal experience, this is your place. Period.
Enjoy!

GO. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT!
I have been on 3 Big Fish Expeditions trips by now and have more trips to look forward to in the near future. First of all I share a big passion for sharks, whale and other big marine life and Big Fish Expedition is all about that. As an amateur photographer is great to be among equals and even better to get new tips and ideas from professionals.
Andy is very helpful showing new tricks and talk about UW photography in between dives. Sure the destinations offers world class diving but it’s also about the people and the relation to people and Andy surely gives everyone the feeling of being very welcome and try to give everyone a lifetime experience.
Another good thing is that Andy is maybe the only pro shooters who offers trips to very reasonable prices. I won’t go into details about all the good dives I’ve done with Big Fish but instead say GO, you will never regret it!
